Embroidery & Illustration
Inspired by Galloway's lush environment, I love to celebrate the creatures, plants and ever-changing weather we have here in Scotland. Using symbolism and a sense of balance in my work is another way I like to reflect natureโs wisdom and seasonal rhythms.
My illustrations and textile work inspire each other in texture and colour. I love this mixture of mediums as I feel it adds depth and invites closer engagement with the details of nature that fascinate me. I mainly work in the form of textile wall hangings and hoops using up-cycled textiles as well as watercolour illustrations on paper.
As well as capturing wild environments, the painting of furry companions has recently grown in my practice. Through them we often discover and appreciate the beauty around us so it seems apt that they also receive our attention and love in the pieces we choose to have in our homes. Symbols associated with an animals name or history are also often incorporated into the paintings as I love to create works with layers of meaning.
