About

Embroidered white rose embroidery painting by Scottish artist Zoe Pearl. created using watercolour and cotton thread. Colourful textile art

I find inspiration in the landscapes, plants and animals of Southwest Scotland and also from my love of gardening. I hope to convey a sense of joy but also highlight precious aspects of our environment. Currently I’m exploring techniques with watercolours, both on paper and painting directly onto upcycled fabrics with embroidered and beaded details.

Original work is available in my Etsy shop along with art prints & greeting cards. I also love to work on commissions and collaborate. Please contact me via email at; zoepearlart@gmail.com

I’d love to hear from you to discuss your own original piece or to work together on a project.

Background

After studying Fashion Technology in the Scottish Borders I worked for various clothing companies in England. I really enjoyed my time working in garment design and development, however I was acutely aware of how much textile waste was being produced, both in the creation of new garments and from our attitudes towards fast moving trends. This has made me determined to be thoughtful about my use of materials and see how I can develop creative ideas on the reuse of textiles

Moving back to Southwest Scotland in 2022 kickstarted a desire to make and create but with a considered approach in what and how I was producing items. I’ve explored various methods from Lino printing to digitally printed textiles and also using my discarded textiles as canvases for painting and embroidery to give them a new purpose. Mending and stitching has been something I have known since I was young, whether it was embroidery to personalise my clothes or sewing shorts from old curtains. I like using stitch much like a paintbrush and blending with other mediums to create embroidery paintings that portray the beauty and joy of nature but also its delicacy.
